About Sepah Lab
The Sepah Lab is an ophthalmic research laboratory at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford, directed by Dr. Yasir J. Sepah. Our team combines ocular imaging, artificial intelligence, biomarker discovery, and digital health research to advance the understanding and assessment of eye disease.
Our research spans diabetic and inflammatory eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, inherited retinal conditions such as Stargardt disease, and ocular melanoma. A central goal is to link retinal structural changes to changes in visual function, helping researchers better understand disease progression and treatment response.
We study imaging biomarkers and molecular markers of inflammation, develop automated methods for retinal image analysis, and investigate new approaches to measuring vision. Our work includes image-guided microperimetry, smartphone-based visual-acuity testing for home monitoring, and visual function assessment using pupillary light responses and EEG.
Beyond imaging and vision testing, we explore how artificial intelligence can help researchers understand patientsโ concerns and care needs by analyzing secure patient messages.
Across these efforts, we aim to support more precise, accessible, and patient-centered vision care.
